To let Villa in Volterra, Toscana (Tuscany), Italy

  • Living Area: 100 m²
  • Number of rooms: 3
  • Number of beds: 4

Description

A romantic villa in the centre of the city of Volterra, Casa Selci was once an
old barn converted into a house the 1950’s by the family’s Grandfather. In
spite of the restructuring Casa Selci has maintained the characteristics of
the original barn building.
The entrance to the house is by the pleasant lounge-kitchen. This room has a
magnificent arched brick ceiling leading to an elegant bathroom with shower.
From the lounge a marble staircase leads to a double and a twin bedroom, both
with wooden beamed ceilings. The comfortable furniture once belonged to the
Grandmother.
The door from the lounge opens onto a large garden, totally enclosed – one
side being part of the ancient walls of the city, from where an excellent view
on the Tuscany countryside can be seen.
In the garden, equipped with deckchairs, tables and chairs for lunch, tea or a
barbecue, there is also a 8 metre diameter swimming pool.
Behind the house there is a park in which the famous Volterra flag throwers
practice to the accompaniment of drumbeats the evocative medieval drummers.
The great advantage of this villa is that when you are inside the garden, you
are completely isolated in your privacy, but open one of the two gates and you
find yourself in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities of Tuscany, rich
in history and fascination, windy streets and allies that characterize Volterra.
Volterra, a jewel of Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance art, sitting on
a hill 550 metres above sea level dominates the entire Cecina valley going
onward to the sea.
An ideal location a stay for discovering one of most uncontaminated areas of
Tuscany, that is at the same time to a short step to the sea and to the most
beautiful and important cities of art and culture in the region.

Road Description

The “magic and mysterious” city of Volterra has its roots in three thousand
years of history. It is possible to find evidence and traces from every
historical period which gives the artistic city a unique aspect.
The ancient city walls, the imposing Porta all’Arco, the Necropolis of Marmini
and the numerous archeological finds conserved in the Museo Etrusco Guarnacci
like the Ombra della Sera with its unique profile, the funeral urns and the
finely crafted jewellery, bear testimony of the Etruscan period.
The Theatre of Vallebona survives from the period of Augustus and suggests the
importance of Volterra under Roman domination.
Today the city conserves above all a Medieval aspect not only for the 12th
century city walls but also because of the urban layout with narrow streets,
palaces, tower houses and churches.
The Renaissance had an important influence on Volterra but without changing the
city’s Medieval character.
From this period are the superb palaces of Minucci Solaini, Incontri-Viti and
Inghirami, which are built into the Medieval city, the imposing Fortezza
Medicea and the Convent of San Girolamo
